The Na Pali Coast, located on the northwestern side of Kauai Island, Hawaii, offers a stunning view of rugged cliffs and lush green valleys. While this area is primarily known for its dramatic landscapes and world-class hiking trails, there are several beautiful beaches nearby in Kapaa that you can explore during your holiday.
If you're not that physically active a plane or helicopter tour can be a good way to appreciate the beauty of the Na Pali coast. For a closer look a boat ride can be the best way to see the Na Pali coast, the ride can be a little rough depending on the season.
Na Pali coast is also a popular hiking area, if you're an experienced hiker or at least physically fit you can try the popular Kalalau trail which has some of the most stunning coast line scenery you are likely to find anywhere. The hiking trail is rocky with some steep sections, it is 2 miles to the Hanakapiai beach, 4 miles to the Hanakapiai waterfall and the entire trail is 11 miles long (a 22 mile round trip). Most people take a shuttle to the trail start, if you arrive early you will be able to enjoy cooler conditions for most of your hike. Make sure to wear some proper hiking shoes and take plenty of water.
The beaches in Kapaa feature a mix of sand types. You'll find golden yellow sand at some beaches, while others have coarse sand with pebbles and rocks. The rocky areas and reefs around these beaches make them ideal for snorkeling and diving, as they attract a wide variety of marine life.
