Indian Beach is a beautiful and serene beach located in Cannon Beach, Clatsop County, Oregon. This beach has featured in several movies including Point Break (where it was used to represent an Australian beach) and the Twilight series. Part of the Ecola State Park, you'll pay a $5 fee on the road entering the park. Then Indian beach is just a short drive, at peak times the parking area can easily become full.
Indian Beach features coarse yellow sand that stretches along the coastline. The beach is surrounded by rocky outcrops and tide pools, which are best explored at low tide.
There are several popular activities you can enjoy at Indian Beach:
Surfing: Indian Beach is known for its consistent surf breaks, making it a favorite spot among surfers. Both beginners and experienced surfers can enjoy the waves here.
Rockpooling: As mentioned before, the rocky outcrops and tide pools make this beach an excellent location for rockpooling at low tide.
Beachcombing & Tide Pool Exploration: The beach and its surrounding areas are rich in shells, driftwood, and interesting marine creatures that inhabit the tide pools. Spend your time exploring these natural wonders along the shoreline.
Hiking: There are several hiking trails near Indian Beach that offer stunning views of the coastline and surrounding forests. One popular trail is the Ecola State Park trail that takes you through lush forests to scenic viewpoints overlooking the ocean.
Photography: With its rugged beauty and picturesque landscapes, Indian Beach is an ideal location for photography enthusiasts to capture breathtaking shots of nature.
Wildlife watching: The Ecola State Park has deer and elk that you might spot if you're lucky. Off the coast you may spot Gray whales migrating during Winter and Spring.
While there aren't any beach resorts directly on Indian Beach itself, there are several hotels and vacation rentals nearby in Cannon Beach town:
Staying in Cannon Beach town is ideal as it provides easy access to not only Indian Beach but also other popular attractions like Haystack Rock and various art galleries, boutiques, and dining options.
