Formentera is lesser known than it's close neighbour Ibiza, but for beach goers it's really an essential visit if you're on Ibiza. From Ibiza the ferry is fast and cheap, making day trips is easy. You can even bring your rental car or motorbike over. Having some transport is highly recommended so you can really explore what the island has to offer. Be aware that nudist beaches with full nudity are common on Formentera.
Playa de ses Illetes
Playa de Ses Illetes is a long beach on an extremely long and narrow rocky and sandy peninsula that juts out towards S'Espalmador island. This is the best known and most iconic part of Formentera, certainly one of the best beaches in the mediterranean if not the world. The peninsula has incredible beach after beach, it's worth exploring - at the end of the spit is a shallow sandy area which joins to S'Espalmador. If you don't have transport from the ferry port, you can rent a bicycle to easily explore this area. Being one of the best beaches on the island and easily accessible from the port, this beach gets crowded.
Playa de Llevant
Playa de Llevant is on the east side of the peninsula and also has some incredible beaches. Depending on the wind direction you may want to choose this beach or the west side of the peninsula and Playa de Ses Illetes.
Playa Es Pujols
Playa Es Pujols is further down the coast from Playa de Llevant at the busiest tourist area of Formentera called Es Pujols. The beach here is wide, sandy and backed by sand dunes. The resorts offer a multitude of watersports.
Playa Tanga
Between Playa de Llevant and Playa es Pujols you can find the peaceful beach of Playa Tanga. One of the quietest beaches in the area it's well worth a look if the crowds are too much for you.
Playa de Migjorn
Further afield, and some drive from the north of the island is Playa de Migjorn, one of the longest stretches of sand on the island, you can find it on the southern side of Formentera. Being 6km long there are several spots where you can enjoy the beach, many of them with restaurants and bars and some with resorts.
Calo des Mort
At the south eastern end of Playa de Migjorn you will find a tiny beach called Calo des Mort. A nice little cove if you want to escape the main beach, but so tiny that it doesn't take many beach goers to fill the place up.
Playa de Tramuntana
On the opposing side of the island center, not far from the road you'll find Playa de Tramuntana, the only parking is actually on the roadside. The beach is excellent though and well worth checking out. With amazing azure waters, if the wind is on shore it may be a bit rough, in that case just head to the otherside at Playa Migjorn.
Cala Saona
Cala Saona is a beautiful cove on the west of Formentera, featuring red stone rocky cliffs and a large shallow sandy bottom. You can park right on the cliff or at the car park nearer the beach. This is usually a nicely sheltered beach and not as crowded as the some of the others.
