Siargao is the Philippines best surfing destination and also a beautiful area for non-surfers to explore. For non-surfers there are island hopping trips available to Naked Island, Daco island and Guyam islands which are with in a few kilometers of General Luna town. These 3 islands can be explored easily on an island hopping day trip, Daco island in particular has a great beach to spend a few hours on.
Further a field, 2 hours away by boat, you can visit Sohoton Cove on Socorro island which is famous for it's caves and jellyfish. An hours drive from General Luna the Magpopongko rockpools should be experienced by everyone, they form a beautiful natural swimming pool. You should check the times of the low tide and make sure you go at that time to appreciate them and don't forget some snorkelling gear!
The high season in Siargao is in September and October when good waves and sunny weather come together along with the international surfing competition to attract many visitors. The quietest and wettest months are November, December, January - though these months are actually great for surfing if not quite so good for sun bathing.
The surf breaks on the pacific coast of the island are the best in the Philippines thanks to the deep waters of the Philippine trench not far off shore. This ensures the waves are clean and break with a tube especially at the world famous Cloud 9 surf break. There are numerous surf breaks close to shore and further out that are accessible by boat. The best months to surf at Siargao are from September until May with the most consistent waves from November until March. December and January have the biggest surf but also be aware that December and January are very rainy months. February and March still have good waves and are more sunny as the rain lessens then, the chances of good surf diminish in April and May, though these are some of the driest months to visit.
Siargao has a very local microclimate and does not have distinct rainy and dry seasons like much of the Philippines. From November until February Siargao has the heaviest rain showers. March until May it is drier, then in June and July heavier rain returns. August, September and October are normally drier again. The best surfing can be had from August until November, there's an annual surf competition in September that attracts competitors from around the globe. Be aware that any time you go can be rainy and even in the wettest month of December much of the rain may fall at night leaving you to enjoy sunny days.
