If you are sailing, windsurfing, fishing, surfing etc. in Helicopter Island don't forget to check the tide and wind and wave conditions
Helicopter Island, officially known as Dilumacad Island, is another of the undeveloped islands of Bacuit bay. The name Helicopter island comes from it's side profile when viewed from the shores of El Nido, it has a resemblance to a helicopter silhouette, though personally i think it also bears a resemblance to a rather gigantic hippo. The island is famous for its remarkable limestone cliffs and its lush jungle backdrop. Helicopter island is included in the local island hopping tour C.
The beach on Helicopter Island is characterized by its fine, powdery white sand which is soft to the touch. This type of sand makes it perfect for walking barefoot along the shore and basking in the sun. The island's underwater scene is also rich with marine life due to the presence of coral reefs around its waters, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts who are looking to explore vibrant aquatic ecosystems.
These activities are popular because they allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in Helicopter Island's natural beauty and tranquility.
While there are no beach resorts or hotels directly on Helicopter Island due to its preserved natural state, visitors can find accommodations in El Nido town proper or other nearby islands offering a range of options from budget-friendly guesthouses to luxury resorts.
El Nido town is a recommended area to stay as it serves as a hub for tourists with various lodging choices, restaurants, shops, and easy access to boat tours that can take you back to Helicopter Island. For those seeking more exclusive accommodation options, staying at resorts located on private islands such as Miniloc Island or Lagen Island provides seclusion along with premium amenities.
Since Helicopter Island remains largely untouched by development, amenities here are minimal. Bringing your own essentials such as water, food, sunscreen, and snorkeling gear is advisable when visiting this off-the-beaten-path destination.
